Thing13, reflection

Thing13, reflection

Wow!  One day I feel successful and I have everything in the "bag"!  Then I look at the site and Professional Development Model and feel like I am crazy for doing this to myself.  It is all good, I enjoy learning new things.  The teachers I work with have been great!  I will send out an email asking for a volunteer for a project and I have several volunteers ready to jump in and try new things in their class.

It has bee very helpful going into other classes, it has given me the opportunity to share with the other teachers are doing in their class to help the next teacher.  Over the many years I have heard principals comment on all the good stuff going on in the classrooms and wish we could visit the other classes. Now I have that opportunity and how true it is.

Every day is a new learning day!

Thing12, Find Something New Web 2.0

TitanPadThe something new that I would like to introduce and try with students and teachers is
http//www.titanpad.com

I chose this site because I haven't used it yet in class or participated when I have heard about the backchannels.  I would like to use this with a class I will be working with in December, the students will log onto the site (using a QR code) and responding to their classmates presentations.  Questions will be posed to the presenters from TitanPad.  Eventually I would like to have a few students be the moderators of the backchannel in class as well.

Thing11, Learn Something from a Video

Thing11, Learn Something from a Video

This video will be used for a 6th grade social studies class studying WWII and propoganda.

http://www.teachertube.com/viewVideo.php?video_id=264846

The video is from Teacher Tube.  The video introduces the term propaganda and shows visual images as well as discussing the purpose of the video.  At the end of the video the announcers tells the students that they will be working in groups to create a propaganda poster, which is one activity the students may complete.

Thing 10, Learn Something Out on Your Own

Thing10, Learn Something Out on Your Own

I will be using this in a social studies class that I will be working with in December on WWII.    I liked that it was not just a traditional QR code maker.  I don't like that it has a quick advertisement as it is loading the site.

Thing9, podcast

Thing9, podcast

I subscribed to Grammar Girl Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing.  I understand computers, math, science, but language I get a total mental block.  The podcast I signed up for was 390GG Passive Voice.  I have been in the computer lab many times with the language teaches they are working with students and I hear "passive voice" quite frequently, so I choice this particular podcast.  I learned that is and was are only clues to passive voice, they are not for sure identifying passive voice.  A true trick is if you can add "by me" at the end of the sentence will mean it is passive.

They are nice quick lessons.  The one that I listened to was just over 4 minutes.  It is a type of thing that I could listen to on the way to work in the morning.
